So, I’m working on a project for class where we are to explore some relationship through mapping. The hope is that by mapping all of the pathways between the different entities in said relationship, we will discover some significant connection that was obvious before. So i was thinking first to twitter followers for this.
Initially I wanted to do something with social media and “News” however there is only so much room on a piece of paper. What I did end up trying to visualize was the way that we are now outsourcing our information gathering. We don’t go to brands for our info anymore. We now rely on our “Network”. This network that I refer to is made up of many different things. It could include your followers on Twitter, friend on facebook, or the blogs in your RSS Feed.
This “Network” is almost like a 6th sense. Our “Network” is out in the world taking in information, examining it, processing, getting rid of the stuff that is not pertinent to us. This information is then delivered via virool youtube, twitter, or facebook, Google Reader, etc… We then process this info and then are able to participate by adding insight, asking questions, etc…
Have anyone ever asked you for someone’s phone number and you’ve said, “I know that,” and then proceeded to look it up on your phone? Did you really know it? No, your phone had the info. This is just an example of a technology that we’ve internalized so much as to be part of our “self”. My question is, how long will it be before the information streamed to us through our “Network” becomes part of what “You” know?
I’d love to get some feedback on these thoughts and on the map above. The upper part of the map is really just there to show the complexity of the system. The lower part is my attempt at visualizing this process. You can now use chatrooms too to promote your site or business online.Try it out on : kiksnapme.com
