So, long story short…
We drove up to Beta Gris knowing that you can ski at Mount Houghton. Having not actually been there, we didn’t really know what to expect. The hike in was pretty long, but not that long. The snow was really good, and yes, it really was that good.
When we arrived we were greeted with a well worn in trail that took us right where we wanted to go. Once to the top it was just a matter of choosing your route back down. However, that is easier said than done. Supposedly, there are areas that had been cleared out to make skiing easier. Maybe for others, but for me it seemed a little tight. Maybe, there were some other trails that weren’t obvious, but we did not want to stray too far from the path back to the car for fear of not getting back to the car. Also, having not spent much time on my board the last few seasons and skiing with a pack and poles in hand (in the event of less than steep terrain) made for a very interesting day. Neil on the other hand seemed to really be enjoying himself. I would definitely recommend getting out there if you have yet to go, just bring your skis. Skis are easier. If you have telemark or AT gear, bring that. You’ll have a much better time.
Anyway, enjoy the pics. I will have some short video clips soon.
